Ciao, ciao aus Tokio
Martin Telser, 2025Alpine cuisine meets Japanese culture at a unique restaurant in Tokyo. Cucina Tirolese per Famiglie is Japan’s only South Tyrolean restaurant, run by Manabu and Kumiko. Their journey began in Northern Italy, where they fell in love with Italian culture, cuisine and each other, dreaming of combining their passion for food with building a family to-gether. However, the reality of everyday life is now at odds with their once-shared dream: Manabu is consumed by work at the restaurant, where he strives to recreate authentic dishes, while Kumiko is struggling to find a balance between her responsibilities towards her family and the restaurant, navigating cultural expectations and desire for happiness. Ciao, Ciao from Tokyo chronicles their story, using food to explore cultural and culinary contrasts amid an ongoing re-evaluation of predefined gender roles and family dynamics.
