BFFB 2026: A Strong Partnership

Reading time

On April 10th, the 39th edition of the BFFB, the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen, will be opened by the documentary "Elon Musk Unveiled: The Tesla Experiment", by South Tyrolean director Andreas Pichler (Production: Beetz Brothers), supported by IDM Film & Music Commission.

The bold film offers a deep insight into Elon Musk's system, his worldview, and his modus operandi. But, this year's BFFB program features – in addition to the opening film – three other projects supported by IDM Film & Music Commission:

"18 Holes to Paradise", produced by the local Albolina Film together with the Portuguese Wonder Maria Filmes, is a work by director João Nuno Pinto. The film unfolds family and society’s problems: among flames in both a literal and figurative sense – of greed, belief in progress, and human fragility.

In the film "Il rospo e il diamante" (Production: Cooperativa 19 from Bozen), South Tyrolean director Beniamino Casagrande spiritually and philosophically explores the meaning of life and the universal need to accept mortality across cultural and religious boundaries.

The short film "Wolkenfabrik" by local director Hannes Lang, produced by Petrolio Film, explores the sky above the Rhenish lignite mining area. Residents talk about their lives, their homeland, and the dangers of climate change.

Industry Initiatives and Workshops

During the BFFB, there are also numerous important initiatives in which IDM Film & Music Commission is actively involved. Here is an overview of the dates:

Nord/Est/Doc/Camp is a lab for the post-production and distribution of documentaries. On April 13th at 10:30 a.m., the four selected projects will pitch at the Filmclub. This includes "GRAN POPO" by Nuno Escudeiro (Production: Helios) – a project funded by IDM Film & Music Commission.

MASO Industry Day & MASO #2 Workshop: This short film training program is primarily organized by IDM Film & Music Commission together with BFFB. Even before the festival begins, the second workshop of the current MASO #2 edition will take place at the ZeLIG film school. The focus here is on the production phase and preparation for the pitches. On April 14th, the MASO Industry Day will follow: the morning starts at 09:30 a.m. at Filmclub with the pitches of the MASO #2 projects. Immediately afterwards, the Open Call for the new edition, MASO #3, will be officially launched. In the afternoon, exclusive one-to-one meetings with short film experts will take place for the participants at Castel Mareccio.

Pitch SCRIPTUM: This project is a scriptwriting lab specifically aimed at emerging local authors. On April 15th at 11:00 a.m. (also at Filmclub), the talents will present the projects they have been working on intensively in recent months in a pitch. Afterwards, a small reception will take place in the foyer of the Filmclub starting at 1:00 p.m.
