Festa del Cinema di Roma: four supported projects in the spotlight

Reading time

IDM Film & Music Commission is strengthening its international presence at this year’s Festa del Cinema di Roma and Alice nella Città.

Four film projects supported by IDM Film & Music Commission have been selected for the programme in Rome. The Commission’s presence will also include participation in MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo, an event to further strengthen connections within the film industry.

The selection of films in Rome highlights the versatility of the South Tyrolean Film Fund, which provides tailored support at different stages of a project, from initial development to production. In doing so, it promotes both the international scope of film productions and the involvement of local talent and companies.

Supported projects in Rome

The works being presented in Rome reflect a range of production scales and artistic approaches:

  • A Talent for Murder (directed by Anton Corbijn): The film will have its Italian premiere in the Grand Public section of the Rome Film Fest. Featuring a high-profile cast, including Helen Mirren, it tells the story of the enigmatic Patricia Highsmith, who retreats to Switzerland in the 1990s to work in isolation. IDM Film & Music Commission Südtirol provided financial support during the production phase.
  • Idda (directed by Irene Dionisio): This story of a deep friendship and a journey up Mount Etna will open the Panorama Italia section at Alice nella Città. The project demonstrates the comprehensive approach to film support: it began its journey at the IDM Script Lab “RACCONTI” and subsequently received support during development.
  • Eklipse (directed by Manuel Wetscher): Also screening in Sintonie, a section of Alice nella Città, is this feature-film debut, produced by Austrian company Eutopiafilm in co-production with South Tyrol’s Albolina Film. The film, which explores the transition to adulthood, received production-phase support from IDM Film & Music Commission.
  • Thunder (directed by Stefania Accettulli and Matteo Raffaelli): The short film will have its world premiere in the Alice nella Città, Onde Corte – Fuori Concorso Panorama Italia section. Produced by Bolzano-based Mediaart Production Coop. and supported by IDM Film & Music Commission and Rai Alto Adige, the film showcases the talent of young South Tyrolean writers and directors, as well as the expertise of local production companies.

The projects selected in Rome demonstrate the diverse role a film fund can play. IDM Film & Music Commission supports works from their earliest development stages through international co-productions, while also providing targeted opportunities for local professionals.

Presence at MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo

Alongside the film screenings, IDM Film & Music Commission will use its presence in Rome to engage with the industry at MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo. At a networking event in the new “CASA MIA @ W Rome - Co-Hosted by MIA & W Rome” format, the organisation will meet international producers and industry professionals to strengthen existing relationships, foster new collaborations and present South Tyrol’s advantages as a production location.
