Sigune is a local professional who started to collect her first on-set experience while studying at the National Film Academy in Bologna, by assisting the directing students. Since then, she has steadily deepened her production expertise by working on numerous film and TV projects.
How did you find your way into the film industry, and why did you focus specifically on location scouting and location management?
My path into the film industry was more practical than planned: I started as an extra in the film Das finstere Tal, cast by Elisabeth Fulterer. The first impression of the set sparked my curiosity, so during my studies, I gained further experience at her casting agency. I came into the location department somehow by chance during my master's internship on the set of the Netflix series Curon. There, I met a local location manager and realized, thanks to her, that I was right behind the scenes, searching for the right shooting locations. I’ve stayed in the field since then because the right places often tell the most beautiful stories.
What is the greatest challenge for you in this work?
The greatest challenge for me is reconciling creative vision with practical feasibility. A location should fit the story perfectly but also be workable in terms of logistics, permits, budget, or weather. At the same time, you must align the ideas of the creative team with the routine of location owners. Sometimes it requires as much organizational talent as interpersonal skills to remain flexible and find quick solutions. Those challenges are exactly what make the work exciting and rarely boring.
Is there a particular location you scouted or managed that stuck with you?
Some places always stay with me for various reasons. Sometimes it’s the warm hospitality of the owners that moves you. Other times, it’s the feeling that time is frozen there. I find abandoned places particularly fascinating, you can almost feel when they used to be full of life — those places have their own, almost magical atmosphere for me. A location can also leave a mark because of the shooting itself: a special scene or the chance to access places you normally wouldn’t.
