Brenner:o in Stere:o #2: new inputs for the Future of the Music Scene in South Tyrol

Reading time

Networking, professional exchange, and a commonlook ahead: The second edition of Brenner:o in Stere:o on October 10th at BASIS Silandro has impressively underlined the potential of the South Tyrolean music landscape.

The KASINO Kulturclub in Silandro became the center of the South Tyrolean music scene on Saturday, October 10th. As a conference and showcase festival, Brenner:o in Stere:o offered the ideal framework to discuss central industry questions, build contacts, and set the course for the future of the local industry.

The IDM Music Fund carries a strong signal

A key thematic anchor point of the day was the presentation of the IDM Music Fund by Renate Ranzi (IDM Film & Music Commission) and the subsequent discussion with Claudia Sergio (PugliaSounds). Not only they exchanged the best practices of the two funding systems, but also the crucial importance of regional music funding in the development of a sustainable music ecosystem.

Take

Also on stage were Silvia Tarrassi (Linecheck Milano), Simon Mühlegger (Feber Wolle), and Gianluca Taraborelli (uploadsounds). Max von Pretz gave insights into the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige as an experimental, contemporary festival that has established itself internationally and has received many awards. Through the format of the Euregio Jazz Werkstatt, they also offer a special program for local artists.

Visions for the Location

One of the highlights of the program was the panel discussion "What is the vision of the South Tyrolean music industry?". Experts in different fields – including Manuela Defant (Cultural Department of the Province of South Tyrol), Renate Ranzi (IDM), Thomas Maniacco (PERFAS), Simon Mariacher (Nightlife Manager, IG Freie Kultur), and conference curator Hans Zoderer (BASIS, Drahthaus) – discussed the path to a sustainable music production hub.

They mutually agreed that, in addition to networking among stakeholders and targeted export measures, the creation of necessary infrastructure is especially needed to sustain the local music landscape. A particularly urgent topic was the principle of Fair Pay: Music creators must be adequately compensated for their work to counteract self-exploitation, which iswidespread in the industry.

Networking and Practice

Throughout the day, the conference offered numerous opportunities for direct exchange between industry professionals and artists through talks, interviews, panels, and an intensive speed-dating format. Musician Philipp Kieser confirmed that this format hits a nerve: "The second edition of the Music Conference is an important contribution to making the South Tyrolean music scene a topic of discussion."

Also present was the internationally successful duo "Anger" with Nora Pider and Julian Angerer, who recently moved their center of life from Vienna back to South Tyrol. They have already financed their last album with public support from South Tyrol and intend to produce in South Tyrol in the future and, among others, rely on the support of the IDM Music Fund.

Musical Conclusion

After a day full of theoretical impulses, the event moved seamlessly into practice. Accompanied by anetworking event and DJ sets by pianopiano/Strappi ai Piatti, the stage opened at 7:30 PM for live acts: Cute Aggression (AT), Carmen (IT), and Principess (DE) provided a diverse soundscape, before DJ sets by EDEN (IT) rounded off the day and kept on going until the early morning hours.

Brenner:o in Stere:o has thus again established itself as an important platform for everyone who wants to help shape the music scene in South Tyrol, look behind the scenes, or plan the next steps for their career. An important step on the way to a lively, professional, and sustainable music economy in the province.
