Four IDM-supported productions at the 43rd Filmfest München

Four productions supported by IDM Film & Music Commission are screening at the 43rd Filmfest München (26 June – 5 July 2026) across different sections.

The drama “18 Holes to Paradise” (by João Nuno Pinto will be part of the section International Independents, while the world premieres of the documentary “Simon Messner – Aus dem Schatten” (by Veronika Kaserer) and the comic drama “Spaziergang nach Syrakus” (by Lars Jessen) will be screened in the Spotlight section. The series “Wake Up” (by Mia Maariel Meyer & Tim Trachte) also premieres in the “Neues Deutsches Fernsehen” section.

Strong South Tyrolean presence in an international environment

The Munich selection highlights the diversity and quality of IDM-supported productions: from international co-productions and documentary portraits to genre fiction films and series.

The four productions screening in Munich:

“18 Holes to Paradise” — International Independents

The Italian Portuguese coproduction “18 Holes to Paradise” by João Nuno Pinto (screenplay: Fernanda Polacow) was partly developed within the IDM Script Lab RACCONTI and later received production funding from IDM. Produced by Wonder Maria Filmes in co-production with Albolina Film, the film centers on an old farm whose sale triggers a fierce family dispute. The film is part of the festival's section International Independents.

“Simon Messner – Aus dem Schatten” — World premiere (Spotlight)

The biopic by the South Tyrolean director Veronika Kaserer (production: Beetz Brothers film production), supported by IDM in production, follows Simon Messner as he leaves eight months after the birth of his first child, to attempt his first ascent of a remote peak in Pakistan, confronting fear of heights, recent fatherhood, and the legacy of his father Reinhold Messner.

“Spaziergang nach Syrakus” — Premiere (Spotlight)

The comic drama “Spaziergang nach Syrakus” by Lars Jessen (screenplay: Heide and Rainer Schwochow) starring Charly Hübner premieres in the Spotlight section with a special screening at the Deutsches Theater. Produced by Pandora Film and Florida Film and supported by IDM last year, the film tells the adventurous journey of Paul Gompitz to Sicily.

“Wake Up” — Series: World premiere in “Neues Deutsches Fernsehen”

The visually striking sci-fi series “Wake Up” (directors: Mia Maariel Meyer & Tim Trachte; writers include Raquel Dukpa, Paulina Lorenz) is produced by U5 Filmproduktion in co-production with ZDF. In the series, Clara falls into a conscious coma after a skiing accident, and an experimental nanobot procedure aims to transfer her consciousness into her sister Emilia’s body. The festival screens the first two episodes; the series is presented in “Neues Deutsches Fernsehen” and is nominated for the “Sven Burgemeister Television Awards”.
