From Wolpertinger to Taylor Swift in Vienna: IDM supports eleven film projects

Reading time

In its third and final funding call of the year, IDM Film & Music Commission is supporting eleven selected projects, including five productions receiving production funding, three short films and three projects in development. Around 38 filming days are planned in South Tyrol.

With “Wolpertinger” and “Toni und Marie – Der Fluch der Geyerin”, IDM is supporting two adventure films aimed at young audiences. The family film “Wolpertinger” follows twelve-year-old Lisa, who sets out to find a mythical creature whose healing blood could save her seriously injured mother. Eight filming days are planned in and around Bolzano in August 2027.

In “Toni und Marie – Der Fluch der Geyerin”, two girls investigate a child’s disappearance in the mountains of South Tyrol. The film is directed by Sarah Winkenstette and written by Katharina Ruß. With 20 of its 30 filming days planned in South Tyrol, it is the project with the most filming days in the region in this funding round. Filming is expected to begin in May 2027 in Magrè, San Pancrazio, Naturno and Val Sarentino.

Koya Kamura’s feature film “Evaporés – Scomparsi” follows a former police officer who leads a decontamination team in the restricted zone of Fukushima. The discovery of a severed hand draws him into an investigation that threatens his new identity.

The documentary “Monastero del rumore” follows twelve nuns who left an 800-year-old monastery in solidarity with their abbess and are building a self-governing community. Four filming days are planned in South Tyrol, including Villandro, Bolzano, and the Salto plateau.

Take

In “Taylor Swift Wien”, directors Andreas Pichler and Veronika Kaserer focus on Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna, which were cancelled in August 2024, and on two contrasting youth cultures: the inclusive Swiftie community and young men who are being radicalized online.

Three short films and three projects in development

Short-film funding goes to “Still”, “Confettur” and “Winter Journey”. Developed through the MASO programme, Gabriele Fusaro’s “Still” tells the story of a twelve-year-old who follows his older brother into the Dolomites, determined not to lose him. In Camilla Carè’s “Confettur”, a jar of mouldy jam draws a woman back into her childhood after her mother’s death. Antoine Stehlé’s road movie “Winter Journey”, also developed through the MASO programme, follows a taxi driver who takes a man with leukaemia to a snowy ski resort. Three filming days are planned in South Tyrol for “Confettur” and another three for “Winter Journey”, between San Candido and Castelvecchio/Caldaro.

In the development phase, IDM is supporting Suranga Katugampala’s arthouse neo-noir “Principe Blu”. At its centre is a man from Sri Lanka who stays in northern Italy after his employer’s death and becomes entangled in a tense relationship of dependence with her son. Nika Saravanja’s documentary “Listen!” explores how sound shapes human experience, from ASMR to the use of music as a weapon. Tara Najd Ahmadi’s “Revenge of the Unfinished” focuses on works of art and artistic careers left unfinished or cut short by sociopolitical pressure.

The deadlines for IDM’s three 2027 funding calls are 12 January, 18 May, and 21 September, each at 12 noon. A consultation meeting is mandatory before submitting a funding application.
