Elisa premieres in Venice

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival is over, and the IDM Film & Music Commission Südtirol was there – this time with a very special highlight: the premiere of ELISA by Leonardo Di Costanzo.

Like every year, the IDM Film & Music Commission Südtirol used key industry events hosted as part of the festival to present South Tyrol/Südtirol as a film location, e.g. at the meeting of the Italian Film Commissions association and the presentation by Nord/Est/Doc/Camp. A special highlight on the agenda was the world premiere of the IDM-funded feature film Elisa by Leonardo Di Costanzo on 4 September as part of the main competition. The drama was produced by Tempesta Film in collaboration with Rai Cinema, Amka Films Productions, and RSI.

In Venice, Carlo Cresto-Dina, CEO of Tempesta Film, talked a bit about the shooting in South Tyrol: “As we had already worked together with the IDM Film & Music Commission, we knew that it would offer us the single most important thing a film commission can offer: ongoing continuity. For us, that means that two essential aspects are guaranteed: Competence – meaning that the IDM Film & Music Commission is intimately familiar with the industry, understands us, and recognises the shooting requirements even in advance. And local professionals – so that the film is not simply a visitor on location but becomes part of a strong local network instead.”

30 local professionals from South Tyrol were working on the set of Elisa, including Davide Grotta and Caterina Ferrari as first and second assistant directors, respectively; Giuseppe Zampella as location manager, and Jacob Watschinger as SFX specialist. Producer Manuela Melissano, who was born in Bolzano/Bozen, fully agrees: “We were lucky to find professionals from South Tyrol in so many different areas, such as direction, camera, wardrobe, and make-up, so that they were represented practically everywhere.”

Elisa celebrated its premiere in South Tyrol on 16 September at the Filmclub Bozen – with director Leonardo Di Costanzo joining via video call, and appearances by actor Diego Ribon and producer Manuela Melissano.
