First Call Featuring 10 Music Projects

Reading time

The IDM Film & Music Commission Südtirol has put out the first call for music projects after broadening its scope of responsibilities to include music funding as well, supporting a total of 10 music projects: six from Italy (all from South Tyrol/Südtirol), one from Germany, two from Austria, and one from Switzerland. These projects represent the broad musical range covered, from indie rock, folk, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and soul to experimental crossovers and even a new rock opera.

The South Tyrolean indie rock band Since 11 is producing a new album which combines alpine beach flair with indie, pop, and rock elements. The Vienna-based musician Moritz Gamper is working on his second solo album: Album 2 is influenced by blues, jazz, jazz manouche, and country music. Anita Obwegs, a Ladin artist hailing from St. Vigil in Enneberg/San Vigilio di Marebbe, is also developing her second album together with her band, Anita Obwegs Quintett. “RAISC” will feature twelve compositions sung in Ladin about topics such as cultural identity and going back to the roots. The 250th anniversary of Sheridan’s The School for Scandal has inspired the South Tyrolean theatrical director, author, and artistic director Manfred Schweigkofler to adapt the play into a new rock opera of the same name, produced by a team of South Tyrolean artists and musicians. The South Tyrolean music project Wicked and Bonny, which is also on tour beyond the borders of the country, has a new album called In Harmony in the works and is also expanding its live performance concept using a live band of four or five people. The indie folk band Timbreroots from South Tyrol is producing their third album, Simpler Times, tackling topics such as nostalgia and the reliving of emotions and marrying South Tyrolean sound tradition with modern indie folk. The young band Rise o’Clock is producing two new singles inspired by artists ranging from Amy Winehouse to John Mayer and is using their growing presence on domestic stages to aim for international gigs. The Bolzano/Bozen-based music label 12Ville is publishing Wish You a Südtirol Christmas 2026, a genre-transcending Christmas album featuring original compositions by various South Tyrolean artists, thus strengthening the regional music scene. Julian Patrick Angerer, the first South Tyrolean artist to win the Amadeus Austrian Music Award, is using his solo project Julnotjules to work on his solo début album, This Modern Love, which is being produced in Bolzano. And the Italian artist and producer Nina Chiodin is developing a new album featuring ten previously unreleased hip-hop, R&B, and soul tracks, which will be presented to an international audience at release shows in South Tyrol and Berlin, for example.

After the successful launch of the Music Fund, further calls are planned for 2026 in order to build on South Tyrol’s position as a location for professional music culture and strengthen sustainable structures in this relatively new area.

The following deadlines have been set for the two 2026 calls:

Call #1 | 2026: Submissions due by 28 April 2026

Call #2 | 2026: Submissions due by 29 September 2026
